Poecile palustris (Marsh Tit)
The marsh tit (Poecile palustris) has a glossy black cap, pale cheeks, a small black bib and a brownish-grey back. It usually takes a seed from the feeder and flies off to hide it. The willow tit (Poecile montanus) looks almost the same; they differ in the gloss of the cap, a pale wing panel and the call, so photos alone cannot settle it. We call these marsh tits because that is what the image recognition says. Our old recognition model labelled such birds “Carolina chickadee”.
